Inversion

Inversion puts the auxiliary verb before the subject after certain negative or limiting words at the start of a sentence, for emphasis: Never have I seen such a view.
02 · Full explanation
After never, rarely, seldom, hardly … when, no sooner … than, not only … but also, little, only then, under no circumstances: adverbial + auxiliary + subject + main verb. If there is no auxiliary, add do/does/did (Rarely does he complain). Inversion is formal and mostly used in writing and speeches. It also replaces if in formal conditionals: Had I known = If I had known; Should you need help = If you need help; Were I you = If I were you.
