Future Simple

01 · Quick explanation

We use will + base verb for predictions, promises, offers and decisions made at the moment of speaking.

02 · Full explanation

Will is the same for all persons and is followed by the base verb (she will help, not she will helps). The short form is 'll; the negative is won't (= will not). Questions start with Will. Use will for opinions about the future (I think it will rain), instant decisions (I'll answer the phone), promises and offers. For plans already decided before speaking, English usually uses be going to.

  • ✗ She will goes to Almaty.

    ✓ She will go to Almaty.

    After will, use the base verb.

  • ✗ I will to help you.

    ✓ I will help you.

    No to after will.

  • ✗ If it will rain, we will stay home.

    ✓ If it rains, we will stay home.

    After if (about the future), use Present Simple.

will vs be going to

Will: decision now, prediction from opinion. Going to: plan made before, prediction from evidence you can see.

I'm thirsty. — I'll get you some water.

I'm going to visit my aunt on Sunday (planned).

I think it will snow this winter.
